A MAN whose body was found in the canal at the weekend has been identified.
Emergency services recovered the body of Jeffery Bridge in the Leeds and Liverpool canal by Dover Lock pub, off Warrington Road, in Abram, at around 11am on Sunday.
The Leigh 51-year-old was last seen on December 29, 2015, at Wigan Wellbeing and Resilience Centre on Charles Street, Leigh.
On January 29, police sent an appeal out, saying he was known to frequent the Leigh and Wigan areas and uses the canal footpaths to travel between the two on foot.
Firefighters from Hindley assisted the police and paramedics in recovering the body from the water.
The circumstances surrounding his death are not yet known.
