Bishop pays visit to market town

The new Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Julian Henderson may have turned to online social media to make his introductions, but it was back to basics on a meet and greet in Garstang.

Accompanied by wife Heather, he made a whistle-stop tour of the Wyre district on the latest of his series of Deanery Days.

He said: “The most important thing for me at the moment is meeting as many people as possible.

“I don’t want to be shut away behind a desk and unapproachable, I want to get out and about.

“At the moment I’m learning - there is lots to discover and I’ve not come into this post with a pre-packaged programme.”

Bishop Henderson spoke of the warm welcome he had received on the trip, which saw him meet all areas of the community - the local schools, farms and a tea at the Fig Tree Fair Trade Visitor Centre.

He has made several videos introducing himself via the diocese YouTube channel since taking over the role recently.
