Bay Gateway in Morecambe closed after early morning bus fire

Fire crews were called to the Bay Gateway this morning after a double decker bus caught fire.

The link road was closed between the M6 junction and Slyne Bridge westbound after the fire broke out on a Stagecoach bus just after 8.30am.

Stagecoach said fortunately the bus was not in service and had no passengers on board, and the driver was not injured.

The fire was at the rear of the vehicle, and engineers are now investigating the cause.

Two fire engines from Lancaster attended the fire. Crews used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus to fight the fire and were at the scene for 60 minutes.

The Bay Gateway reopened at 9.25am, although with one lane closed for a short time.
