From food festivals and gravy wrestling to gala days and tractor pulls there’s plenty to do either by yourself or with family and friends.

And hopefully the weather will behave too with a mix of sunshine and rain forecast by the Met Office over the weekend. Today and tomorrow are predicted to be bright in the mornings and evenings with patches of rain scattered throughout the afternoons. Bank Holiday Monday looks to be slightly more bleak with showers predicted throughout the day.

The Leyland Guardian Food Festival takes place at Hough Lane and Balfour Court running from 11am until 4pm today. It includes plenty of food stalls, live music as well as a magician, balloon-modeller, face-painting, cupcake decorating, and a children vs food competition. Also today and running into tomorrow is the UK’s largest tractor pulling event. The largely modified tractors, which produce over 9,000 horsepower, pull a weighted sledge over a 100-metre track from 2pm on today and 10am tomorrow. Entrants will compete to see who can pull the weight the furthest and for anyone wanting to watch, the event takes place on a purpose-built track at Great Eccleston.

Tomorrow is the Gregson Green Gala Day on the playing fields at Hoghton. Running between 12pm and 4.30pm, Brindle Brass Band will be entertaining the crowds who can also enjoy stalls, demonstrations, a barbecue and licensed bar.

Moving into Bank Holiday Monday, the fun continues with a unique event – the gravy wrestling world championships. Held at the Rose and Bowl in Rossendale, starting at 1pm, amateurs and professionals get into the ring, full of gravy, and compete for the world title. A one of a kind event, not to be missed.

For a slightly more traditional Monday out, there’s also the Walmer Bridge fete, involving classic cars, fairground rides, dog shows, maggot racing, laser tag and various stalls running from 12pm until 4pm in the grounds of Walmer Bridge Village Hall.

Garstang also has its own event on Monday with the annual town crier competition as criers come from across the world to compete for the title.
