Baby boy pulled from wreckage of horror smash in Brazil that killed his dad
A six-month-old baby has survived a horror car crash in Brazil that killed his dad, his gran and his nine-year-old cousin.
The tot’s mum and aunt were also seriously injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into another vehicle.
Baby Luiz was miraculously hauled from the wreckage and is now “stable” in hospital.
But little Luiz’s dad, Anthony Hays, 37, from Morecambe, was instantly killed in the crash.
Anthony’s Brazilian wife Aline and her sister Pamela Pereira Sa are reportedly stable too.
But the sisters’ mum Maria Lucia dos Santos, 54, and Pamela’s nine-year-old daughter Emily died in the accident.
Anthony - who was working for Aerius, a marine engineering firm, based in Rosyth, Fife - and his wife’s family had been travelling to Pamela’s graduation ceremony in a Fiat Strada when the collision happened on Saturday (March 19).
The family’s car struck a Toyota Hilux in Terra Nova do Norte, Brazil.
The driver of the Toyota, Sergio Bacon, 68, was reported to have died.
Touching tributes have poured in for Anthony, nicknamed “Tids”, over social media as the devastating news broke.
His brother Mark wrote on Facebook: “I miss my bro so much xxx.”
And Anthony’s childhood pal - and best man at his wedding - Karl Mulliner, 36, said he is heartbroken by the news.
He said: “I will miss my friend so much, he was a brother to me.
“I’m ruined, completely lost. I’m going to miss him so much.
I’m really finding it hard to take in, not stopped crying. I can’t believe he is gone. We have been best mates since we were five or six years old, and have done everything together. I’m completely heartbroken.”
Anthony and Aline got engaged in June, 2013 and married in May, 2014. The pair studied together at Lancaster and Morecambe College.
