A special award in memory of a disabled rights campaigners is being launched.

The Lesley Finley community award 2014 is being promoted by Disability Equality North West, Preston.

Lesley, 47, of Lostock Hall, died last year. Starting as a volunteer, she went on to become a trustee, company secretary, vice-chair and then chairman of the organisation.

Lesley had a passion for supporting and enabling Disability Equality to support local disabled people, and where necessary would actively challenge service providers to ensure equality of access for all.

The award will recognise a disabled person who has made a positive impact on the lives of other disabled people in Lancashire and who meets the following criteria: A disabled person living in the North West; prepared to go the extra mile to ensure disabled people live a full and active life; has overcome personal challenges and society’s barriers; and has supported and promoted the Social Model of Disability

The selection panel consists of Disability Equality NW trustees and volunteers, Lesley’s partner and family members and an external advisor.
