Fire crews from Lancaster, Carnforth and Bolton-le-Sands who were sent to the fire at the former Crown Hotel on St Leonard Gate discovered recently fitted boarding had been forcibly removed in order to get inside.

Crews were called to the fire at 6pm on April 25.

The crews found the fire was on the first floor level of the three storey building.

Due to the poor state of the building’s internal structure, the majority of the firefighting activity took place from above and outside.

The fire was brought under control at around 7.30pm, but crews remained at the scene damping down until 11pm.

The fire is currently being treated as being of suspicious origin.
