Armed forces charity Dig In North West honoured with Lancashire County Council award

Alf, who served in the Scots Guards for 24 years, said: “I am delighted this outstanding local charity have been recognised in this way. They carry out vital work within the community with amazing results. I have come across people who have benefited from their work, who told me that their lives have been turned around as a result.”

The trophy is presented annually to the group, charity or individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the armed forces community in Lancashire.

Tom Davies served in the Scots Guards until 1967 and then joined the police. He was secretary and treasurer of the Scots Guards’ Association in Lancashire. He was Preston’s Parade Marshal and sat on the Veterans Council. He was also involved with Preston Sea Cadets.

At the event, people also heard about the successful covenant bid, and the county council’s Ex-Armed Forces Mentor Scheme, which has been running for five years. The scheme puts armed forces veterans on a year-long course to gain qualifications, while mentoring young people in the county’s schools.
