£700,000 raised for Lancashire flood recovery

The total amount of charitable grants distributed from the flood appeal so far has reached over £438,000, benefiting thousands of people and community groups across the county.

The Community Foundation is now looking to raise more funds for the appeal for new charitable grants to support vulnerable people, households in extreme hardship and community-led flood defence work across the county.

Community Foundation chief executive Cathy Elliott said: “The response from people and organisations to our Lancashire Flood Appeal continues to be phenomenal and thank you to everyone who has donated big and small sums to help those in greatest need.

“We continue to be humbled by the stories we hear and do our best to help people to rebuild their lives.

“We need to continue to support highly vulnerable people and households in extreme hardship as a priority, and we will soon begin supporting community-led flood defence work across the county. We hope people will continue to donate funds to support our work to protect the county’s people and environment.”

The foundation is now planning for the third stage of the flood appeal, launching in April, to support voluntary and community organisations who wish to put plans into action to help them cope better with future storms and flooding.
