Rob Sweeney, a 37-year-old insurance advisor had travelled from the North East with a friend to watch the Championship match against Preston North End, when he got lost in the city centre.

He said: “About 2pm we left the Grey Friars and me and my friend got lost on the way to Deepdale, so we asked a lady some directions.

“There was also another two fellas in the same situation. This lady gave us directions, then as soon as she realised there was four of us, she offered us a lift.

“Now in this day and age you have to be careful, we could have been anyone. Anyway, this lady was really nice and pleasant with us and took us to the game. We tried to give her some money to say thank you but she wouldn’t accept it.

“In my eyes this was totally amazing and so kind hearted.”

Row now wants to contact the lady, who he describes as around 50 and driving a Skoda, so he can give her a bunch of flowers.

He said: “I’d like to get her some flowers just to say a massive thank you and to let her know she saved the day.”
