A six-year-old girl is in a critical condition after being hit by car.

She suffered serious injuries in a collision with a Ford Fiesta at around 5.50pm yesterday on Christ Church Road, Preston.

The youngster was taken by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital and transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, where her condition is described as “critical”.

The road was closed for two hours for an investigation into what happened and police are now appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Malcolm Bell, of Lancashire Constabulary’s road policing unit, said: “This collision has caused serious injuries to this little girl and I would appeal for any witnesses to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 1170 of August 7.
