The pair cast their eyes over the family treasures, sentimental heirlooms and vintage knick knacks that had been brought along.
Guests were initially asked to put their knowledge to the test identifying and valuing a number of unusual items before the serious business of valuing the items they had brought began.
With some interesting stories to be heard, together with some surprise valuations, everyone headed home with plenty of anecdotes to tell their friends and a decision to make: could they part with their sentimental possession to make some extra pounds?
David, who has appeared on Flog It and Bargain Hunt, together with UCLan lecturer Clive, spent a lot of time with guests, assessing their items and discussing their own interest in the antiques world.
The informal evening was organised by Preston-based charity Methodist Action to raise vital funds to help the homeless and disadvantaged across Lancashire. Stephen Hetherington, CEO of Methodist Action North West, says: “We are so lucky to welcome such knowledgeable and well-known experts who have given their time to help our charity.
“David is an auctioneer at Thomas Watson in Darlington and is widely recognised for his appearances on Flog It and Bargain Hunt, whilst Clive lectures on antiques at UCLan and is an auctioneer at Parbold Antiques.
“Everyone had an excellent time.”
Once the valuations were over, guests mingled over a few drinks and found out about the work if Methodist Action North West, which supports the homeless and disadvantaged across Lancashire, continuing the work of Preston’s Central Methodist Church which began in 1978.
One of its main projects is the development of Fox Street Community, which provides facilities for rough sleepers in Preston city centre.
Future events include a Ladies’ Evening on Friday, July 13, a sponsored sleep Out on saturday, September 8 and a Ceilidh on Friday, November 30.
