'Amazing' volunteers thanked at Brockholes celebration
More than a hundred people gathered at Brockholes Nature Reserve, off Preston New Road, Preston, for a Christmas lunch and a pie and peas dinner to celebrate the work they have done over the past year.
Lancashire Wildlife Trust (LWT) trustee Stephen Niven said: “Without our volunteers the Wildlife Trust would not be able to protect and conserve our wonderful nature reserves and all the wildlife that lives and grows there.”

Chief executive Anne Selby added: “I know all of our staff find working with volunteers inspiring and each one of them is passionate about the wildlife on their own doorstep.
“It is nice to give them something back at Christmas, but they are the type of people who do not ask for thanks - they just love the natural world and want to do their bit. They are amazing.”
The food – provided by James Hall and Co, SPAR UK wholesaler – was served by staff members who work with the volunteers.

“We were delighted to be able to say thank you to the volunteers and the Lancashire Wildlife Trust for all the fantastic work they do.”
Anne and Preston Mayor Coun Trevor Hart handed out five-year, long service awards to more than 30 volunteers.
At Brockholes, volunteers work in the office and shop as well as getting involved in physical work like coppicing and scrub clearance.
