Bosses at an aircraft manufacturer have been holding talks with several aviation businesses from Blackpool Airport, to offer support.

BAE Systems, which has bases in Warton and Samlesbury, has been in touch with some of the small firms which have operated out of the Fylde facility.

Airport owners Balfour Beatty announced the closure of Blackpool last week when they failed to find a buyer.

A BAE Systems spokesman said: “We are disappointed with the recent news that Blackpool Airport is to stop flying operations until a new owner can be secured.

“We are in discussion with a number of operators from Blackpool Airport to see if we can provide some short-term business continuity to them without affecting our operations.”

It is understood those in touch with BAE include operators of chartered flights.
