A new head for St Aidan’s

THE new year will also mark a new era at St Aidan’s CE Technology College – with a new headteacher at the helm.

Mr Andy Smith will take over the reins from current head Alan Porteous, who announced earlier this year he would be leaving after five years in the role at the Preesall school.

Mr Smith will join the school in January from Skipton Girls’ High School in North Yorkshire, where he is associate headteacher and was deputy head for nine years previously.

No stranger to Lancashire, he has also held teaching posts in Burnley and at Carr Hill High School, Kirkham.Originally, from Northern Ireland, Mr Smith has lived the past 15 years in Clitheroe. An active Christian, he is a regular worshipper at St. James’ Church.

And the Blackburn Rovers season ticket holder said he is excited about his new post.

Mr Smith said, “I am really excited to be given the opportunity to be St Aidan’s headteacher. It’s a good school with a great atmosphere and fantastic staff and students.

“I’m looking forward to the next few years as we all work together to make this wonderful school an even better place for our young people to learn and grow.”
