Barnardo’s is celebrating its 150th anniversary in a rather unique way – by urging the public to donate 150 sets of bedding to support a project to get young people into accomodation.

The charity’s Moving On project supports young, homeless people aged between 16-25 years old, providing accommodation and support to encourage successful, independent living.

Sian Davis, children’s services manager for the project explains: “When the young people arrive at Moving On, they very often have nothing. It’s up to Barnardo’s to provide them with the very basics, including pillows and duvets.

“One hundred and fifty sets of new or unused bedding will provide for all the project’s young people for an entire year. This echoes the work of the charity’s founder, Thomas Barnardo, when 150 years ago, he began providing emergency accommodation for young people with nowhere to sleep.”

Across Lancashire, Moving On provides more than 70 beds to young people and more than 150 young people benefit by being accommodated each year. In Preston, Barnardo’s operates Merriweather on Fishergate Hill and Preston Foyer on Lawson Street.

If you would like to donate a brand-new sealed pillow or
duvet to the project then please take it to: Preston
Foyer, 17 Lawson Street,
Preston PR1 2QT or call 01772 881380.
