It didn’t take Jason Rea too long to work his magic on chef Zoë Grogan.
The couple met in March 2012 when Zoë, from Ribbleton, was working at Franco’s restaurant in Longridge, where professional magician Jason showed off his close-up tricks to customers.
“He just wowed me,” Zoë admits. “We got chatting and soon found ourselves meeting up and going on dates.
“Because I worked late as a chef, we used to meet at around 11pm and spend a lot of time (and money) at Grosvenor Casino in Manchester.
“At weekends we would spend our days in Lytham and walk along the front.”
Jason’s passion for magic almost ruined one particular Valentine’s Day for the loved-up couple though, when he had to work in Manchester.
But fate had a trick of its own up its sleeve.
“I was upset we couldn’t spend our first Valentine’s Day together due to Jason’s work commitments,” Zoë explains. “But as Jason was travelling on the motorway his car broke down and he needed me to come and rescue him!
“As we sat waiting for the AA to arrive, he turned to me and said: ‘Well you did want to spend Valentine’s Day together.’
“Stranded on the hard shoulder in the freezing cold wasn’t what I’d had in mind though.”
The couple’s love of magic and wizardry went on to play a part in their wedding day reception, which was held at Stanley House in Mellor on June 27.
Following a service at St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Ribbleton, guests were treated to a Hogwarts style cake, thanks to Harry Potter fan Zoë.
Jason, from Deepdale, managed to have the day off and booked his friend Darren Robinson to do magic tricks, and there was also a harpist, caricaturist, a popcorn and candy floss machine, and a candy cart.
The couple, who live with their two-year-old son Ronnie in Ribbleton, honeymooned in the Maldives.
