LEP feature wedding: American-style trucks and race course wedding at Barton Grange

Have your say

An incredible 17 years after Anne-Marie Davenport said ‘yes’ to Steve Weatherall’s proposal, the pair finally said ‘I do’ at Barton Grange Hotel in Preston on May 9.

And while they were delighted to have the bride’s mum Joan there to celebrate their special day, the family also paid a special tribute to Anne-Marie’s late father Bobby - with a host of American Trucks.

“Steve says he has been on ‘pay as you go’ for all this time and now he is on contract!”

She explains: “My dad, who passed away many moons ago, was a heavy goods driver and loved the American-style trucks.

“Unfortunately Steve never met my dad, but he has the same ‘fetish’ with trucks so it made sense to have them there as the lads’ transport, as a mark of respect for dad.

“As soon as they arrived a lot of my family were in tears as they knew dad would have loved it.”

As well as the truck theme, horses also played a part in the couple’s special day.

“We had a race course theme for the day with scratch cards as favours (as we have horses) and everyone loved it,” Anne-Marie says.

“Me and Steve have been together for 17 years and for one reason or another, we just never got around to getting married – he says he has been on ‘pay as you go’ for all this time and now he is on contract - the cheeky begger!

“He proposed when we had only been together a month or so, not realising it would be such a long engagement!

“We had gone to Tenerife and he proposed when we were away.

“It was a splendid day and one I will treasure as I married Steve, and even though dad couldn’t be there, at least we managed to have mum there and she enjoyed herself.”

Anne-Marie, and engineering and highways co-ordinator at Blackpool Council, was given away by her Godfather Ray Hindley as she wed civil engineer Steve.

But the ceremony wasn’t without its hiccups, as the registrar accidently pronounced that Anne-Marie was now married to Steve’s brother Darren - the best man!

“It was the funniest part of the day,” the bride says. “The whole place was in uproar laughing; it really broke the ice with everyone.

“Darren is Ste’s brother but the minute she saw Darren, she must have taken a shine to him so he was obviously on her mind!”

The newlyweds, who live in Thornton Cleveleys, honeymooned in the Canary Islands.
