It was a wild goose chase for Helen Turner which started the romantic weekend that long-term boyfriend Stuart Leek had planned to pop the question.
The couple, from Leyland, met in January 2007 at Buckingham Bingo, where Stuart was working.
“She was driven to the railway station with no idea where she was going and given her train tickets to take her to Windermere”Groom Stuart Leek
The proposal eventually took place in May 2014.
Stuart said: “It all started the day before when I had arranged a number of surprises for Helen.
“She was driven to the railway station with no idea where she was going and given her train tickets to take her to Windermere.
“Upon arrival, a taxi had been arranged to collect her and take her to the Daffodil Hotel and Spa in Grasmere, where she had a relaxing afternoon booked in the spa.
“Later in the afternoon, I drove up to meet Helen with our daughters, Ruby and Poppy, and we checked into the Daffodil Hotel too.
“We had a lovely meal in the restaurant that night together as a family and I had the engagement ring in my pocket the whole night, just waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question.
“But it never came and the night passed without the proposal taking place. It was a combination of nerves – and the children !
“The next morning, once again I took the ring with me down to breakfast, then for a walk around Grasmere with Helen and the girls, and then for a trip into Bowness.
“Bowness is very special to us both as we had spent a fantastic time there together on a previous date, so I knew this had to be the place.
“After hours of trying to find the right moment and the right words, we sat on a bench with the girls overlooking Lake Windermere and I got down on one knee.”
The pair wed at Singleton Lodge Country House, Poulton-le-Fylde, on July 10.
They honeymooned in Sharm el Sheik, Egypt.
