It’s the brainchild of Morecambe BID (Business Improvement District) which is hoping the campaign will give the local economy a major boost.

With the Covid-19 pandemic cancelling many foreign holidays, while others simply feel safer staying in the UK, the staycation uplift is a perfect fit for Morecambe says BID chairman Tom Powney.

“Recently I have seen some amazing photographs of Morecambe on social media. They show families enjoying themselves down on the beach, children splashing around in our fabulous Morecambe Bay, and eating ice creams while walking along our miles and miles of stunning promenade.

“These photos could have easily been taken more than 50 years ago when Morecambe was in its heyday as a go-to seaside resort. The fact that they were taken recently shows that in 2020, our town has plenty to offer families who are looking for a summer break close to home.”

With five miles of sandy coastline, and award-winning sea-front promenade, Morecambe – the Eden of the North – has all the ingredients for the perfect break. And a holiday without airport queues, flight times and language and currency barriers is attractive for many families, who are turning to a simpler approach post lockdown.

Tom added: “‘Simple Pleasures’ is all about switching off the internet, putting the mobile phone away and coming to Morecambe to dig sandcastles with the kids, walk the dog on the beach and experience the natural beauty of our bay.

“Morecambe is the perfect option for people looking for a short break full of nostalgia, fresh air and simple, pleasurable activities for all the family.”

BID organisers want to balance the economic boost the town needs with the safety of all, and are encouraging all visitors to follow government guidelines on travel, and social distancing and sanitising measures in place in shops and restaurants around town.

Tom said: “While asking visitors to take into account all the current guidance on staying safe, our message this summer is simple.

“Come to Morecambe to enjoy its ‘Simple Pleasures’ because it’s the ideal place to have a fantastic, family-friendly and socially-distant holiday.”
