Barton Road Centre is now a drop off point for anyone in the Bowerham, Scotforth, Newlands and Hala areas of Lancaster who wants to donate food to Morecambe Bay Foodbank.

Those who wish to contribute, should take their donations to the garden at the back of the centre on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9.30am-1pm.

“We’ve had a huge response from people across the community,” said Janine Bebbington, chair of Barton Road Centre’s trustees.

“Several people who have been to drop off food have organised a door step collection on their street and then dropped it off at the centre gates which seems like a really good idea. Imagine if every street did the same? We’d have created a food drop-off movement!”

People are just anxious to help - opening our gates twice a week is a way to facilitate the community’s kindness. It’s been lovely to see people forming orderly queues while observing social distancing guidelines. We now have a huge bank of centre volunteers who have been only too keen to give their time to staff the sessions”
