Fives, in the ornate Listed building which once housed the Central Conservative Club, will be re-opening on March 31, it has been announced.

Lancashire businessman Shaun Patchett, who runs a top restaurant in London, will operate the re-born Fives which was bought last November by entrepreneur Simon Rigby.

“I’ve been operating in London for the last four years,” said Shaun. “I still live on the outskirts of Preston, but I spend my weekdays in London. So I’m now splitting my week between London and Preston as we prepare for the reopening of Fives.

“I’ve been looking for a venue in my hometown for some time and Fives is perfect. It is such a beautiful venue. It was too good to turn down the opportunity to reopen Fives and, with the support from Simon, we will be ready for the grand opening on March 31.”

Simon, who has injected new life into the city centre since he bought the Guild Hall, snapped up Fives – a 138-year-old building he describes as “one of the five nicest in Preston” – from previous owner Edgar Wallace.

He commented: “I’m pleased for myself and for Preston to have found a serious London operator to take a long lease on Fives.

“London operators looking for the next city to move to in the modern city boom is good for all of Preston as well as for the future of Fives.

“People who want to see Preston pull itself up by its boot straps should be happy to see Fives opening again and having a sensible local owner.”
