Let’s get red-y to ramble!

Charity campaigners, parents, friends, the general public and many of the disabled children who benefit from the charity’s work will turn out in bright colours and fancy dress costumes to join the fundraising sponsored walk which starts from Bishop Rawstorne School in Croston.

And the ramble also attracts many supporters who stand along the routes to cheer the walkers on, adding to the walk’s fun atmosphere, and even the local Yahama club decorate their motorbikes with balloons and ride out to support the walkers.

The event began five years ago, the brainchild of Sonia Harris, who works at the national charity which helps children with brain injuries, multiple disabilities and complex medical needs and is based in Mawdsley.

Beginning with just 150 walkers at that first walk half a decade agao, the Rainbow Ramble is set for a record breaking turn out this year - as 320 walkers have already signed up in advance and more are expected to turn up on the day itself.

Finance manager Ruth Marsh said: “Last year, we had 300 walkers as the final figure. This year, we have got 320 at the moment. But we already know that more people are coming on the day because they have phoned up to say they will be there.”

Walkers choose from a tougher 18 mile or a shorter 11 mile route. All ages and abilities welcome - and you can run if you prefer. Registration opens at 8.30am and to register on the day, you must be there by 9am. Walkers join a fun warm up at 9.30am before the walk begins at 10am.
