When your business is also your home and the setting for meet-ups with friends old and new, it can be a difficult decision to know when turn your back on it.

But Jacqueline Berry, who has been cutting, dyeing, setting and styling customers’ hair at New Image Hair Design for 40 years has decided that the time has come to hang up her scissors.

So, her Ribbleton salon and home is now up for sale and Jacqueline is hoping that the new owners will take as much joy from the property as she has.

“I can honestly say that I have had a wonderful life as a hairdresser here and I’ll be devastated to leave it behind, but the time has come for me to take things easier,” said Jacqueline.

Jacqueline’s business has allowed her to form close friendships with many of her clients.

“For hairdressers, customers become more like friends, you get to know all about them, their lives and their families – it’s more of a social life than a job and I’ll miss it. My oldest customer is 95 and she comes in every week to have her hair done. It’s one of the highlights of her week.”

This thriving business would suit anyone looking for a salon with attached living accommodation.

The living space is such that there is even scope for extending the salon area downstairs to open a beauty treatment room, for instance, and move the living room upstairs.

“The accommodation is set over three floors, with an attic room with a beautiful wrought iron staircase that we adapted for my son a few years ago when he wanted his own space, before he left home,” said Jacqueline. “I’ve had a lot done to make the living areas nice. It’s been my home for 40 years, so there’s a lot of love gone into it and I hope the right person comes along to take over.

“Of course, if the person who wants the salon didn’t want to live here as well, the accommodation could be made completely separate and rented out.”

Tasked with finding new owners for the Ribbleton business is Ernest Wilson & Co, a specialist business agent based in Leeds.

Jacqueline added: “Ernest Wilson have been fantastic, they really know what they’re doing. I have lived and worked here for 40 years so I have no idea where to start when it comes to selling a business or a home, and they have guided me every step of the way.”

Established in 1956, Ernest Wilson & Co assists clients with the purchase and sale of businesses, offering agency services, finance options and support throughout the sale process.
