Preston City Living projects create more than 1,300 apartments
Plans have been submitted to turn solicitors’ premises in Cannon Street into high-end flats - the latest of more than 15 conversion projects launched since Preston Council introduced its strategy to revitalise the city centre three-and-a-half years ago.
Despite dozens of suburban housing developments springing up out of town in that time, the city centre has also seen more than 1,300 new apartments - not counting student accommodation - planned since the City Living vision was unveiled in April 2017.

Two years ago the property was the subject of a planning application for 15 studio flats and bedsits, which councillors passed. But since then the applicants, Friday Club Developments from Manchester, have revised their scheme and gone for quality rather than quantity.
“After appraisal of the approved scheme it has been decided to seek to improve the quality of the accommodation provided and make better use of the existing building,” says a statement to the planning committee.
The plan is to top off the scheme with a “desirable two-bedroom penthouse apartment.”
The building will have four two-bed flats and four one-bed.
