The site, on land north of Eastway, already has outline permission approved for up to 300 houses, employment land, a mixed use centre and open space provision.

Now house builder Story Homes has lodged an application with Preston Council for a range of two-to-five-bedroom properties.

If approved, the development will also include 45 affordable homes, designated for local people.

Eastway is one of 11 development sites owned by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), being developed as part of the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.

Martin Nugent, planner for Story Homes said: “The site has already been allocated for a mixed use development which includes up to 300 houses.

“We have worked closely with the Homes and Communities Agency, Preston City Council and Lancashire County Council to take this forward with a high quality scheme.

“The development will bring a number of benefits to the area including job creation and security for local subcontractors and a knock on effect for the local supply chain.”

Financial contributions to transport links will be made if the plans are given the green light, which include improvements to foot paths, cycle paths and highways.

Coun John Swindells, deputy leader of Preston Council said: “This is a key site for new homes in Preston and we are pleased Story Homes are making progress with their planning application.

“It is another indicator of the housing and economic growth that is being generated through the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.”

Story Homes is also applying to build a unit to be used for retail on the ground floor, and community use on the second floor.

Detailed plans will also need to be submitted for the rest of the scheme.

Story Homes has another development in the Preston area at Cottam Hall, where work to build 283 new homes has just started.
