Apprentices help give school a spruce up

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, Redrow dispatched apprentices to lend a helping hand at a Clayton-le-Woods primary school.Seven Redrow apprentices headed to Lancaster Lane Community Primary School, rolled up their sleeves and repainted planters as well as an outdoor stage and outdoor classroom – leaving an eye-catching wood-stained finish to impress teachers, pupils and parents. The apprentices were also on hand to get stuck into ad-hoc fixes and enhancements required around the school, located near to Redrow’s Hedgerows development of homes and not far from the company’s office base at Buckshaw Village.Anne Collard, apprentice co-ordinator for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), said: “We are always looking at opportunities to engage with schools as part of our commitment to develop and support thriving communities.“Therefore, with it being National Apprenticeship Week, it seemed the perfect timing to head over to Lancaster Lane.“Our apprentices were justifiably proud of their efforts painting the school’s planters.”Redrow’s help was provided during National Apprenticeship Week, with the housebuilder a long-standing champion of opportunities for young people, having at any time upwards of 130 apprentices learning one of the key housing trades along with office apprentices.“We’re very grateful for Redrow’s support and the apprentices who came to our school provided a first-rate service,” added Lancaster Lane headteacher Joanne Geldard.Redrow has one of the industry’s best records for training and developing, and as a member and patron of The 5% Club, Redrow is committed to ensuring at least 5% of its work force is made up of apprentices, graduates or sponsored students in the next five years. In practice, the business goes far beyond this as 17% of its workforce are trainees. It has also been a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer for five consecutive years.
