Many years ago when I lived in Lancaster, local Indian takeaway and delivery legends Nice & Spicy played a crucial part in my life.

They were stored as speed dial #2 on my Nokia 3210 and I could rattle off an elaborate order of curries and side dishes over the phone while walking home after a very long night at the pub. I knew exactly when to ring so that the food was delivered just a few minutes after I got home. And it was always divine.

So fast forward what seems like a thousand years and it was very much a trip down curry lane to have a meal delivered from Nice & Spicy once again, this time in Preston.

And all these years later the delivery, from the outlet in Leyland Road in Penwortham, is still reliable and the food delicious.

Reliving history I ordered most of my staple diet from all those years ago. The lamb rogan josh tasted deliciously meaty and tomatoey - and had a respectable amount of sheep in it. The chicken vindaloo was suitably fiery but still had a depth of flavour that can be lost at such high temperatures.

The side dishes were also good. The saag aloo was rich with a good amount of spinach. The Bombay aloo (shouldn’t that now be Mumbai aloo?) was full of flavour but had too much of a sweet and sour edge for my taste.

Everything in the meal erred on the spicy side - so have a few chilled lagers ready to maintain your ying yang.

The popadoms and naan bread still have that exact same smoky taste all these years later.

This is a business that lives up to its name - it is very nice and it can be really rather spicy.
