Don’t judge a Hut by its cover...

Mick’s Hut stands in an uninviting stretch of units near Preston station, the type of row where you’d expect a 70s-style porn shop to be; the ones that predate Ann Summers and the corporatisation of adult foreplay.

To be honest, it looks like the type of place drunks fight at night while the girls whose love was unrequited at Evoque munch on kebabs to soak up the vodka.

And my thoughts appeared justified when I looked at the reviews online.

Guywalsh of Preston has written (in bad English): “Micks hut is run by a friendly bunch of anglo/asian dudes, there tolerance for drunk ladish nonsense is legendary, I know because in the past 10 years maybe I’ve been one, however the grubs dead tasty, if you live within 2 miles it’s a great way to sober up by eating and walking home.. Donner kebab with hot chille or spicy pepperoni pizza is the order of the day.. kudos MH staff..”

Well said, Guywalsh, and let’s hope the MH staff take that as an apology for your inebriated state. But a takeaway should only be judged on its food, and this is top notch.

I went for Peshwari Massala (chicken tikka and minced meat), Persian Massala (chicken and lamb tikka in a sauce) and Chick Makhani (chicken tikka in a butter-based sauce).

None of this was for curry beginners – they all had a decent kick – and you could argue all three dishes were indistinguishable, but the meat was juicy and the sauces thick.

Offering a dipping finger of my doggy bag to colleagues the following day there was a universal thumbs-up.

I’ll leave the final word to pne365: “I would recommend Mick’s Hut to anyone, Give it a go, you won’t regret it. Trust me, I should know. I work on Security and enjoy Mick’s on a regular basis while on nights, and we are never wrong.”

Lovely.
