Days like these must end on a balti

There are times when only a curry will do.

You know what I’m talking about. Hard day at the office, late finish...

Do you go home and start preparing something from scratch or do you allow the takeaway to take the strain?

In this case it was a no-brainer. I ordered ahead from LEP Towers and by the time I reached this friendly little takeaway opposite the Walmer Bridge pub, it was ready to go.

We had decided to order a starter, a mixed kebab of sheek kebab, lamb and chicken tikka, plus poppadoms.

It was a bit unnecessary, given that the Village Tandoori always pops some free and very delicious onion bhajis, salad, chutney and onions into the bag, but very tasty nonetheless.

From there it was on to the main course. An extra spicy lamb pathia for husband Bob and a balti chicken tikka bhuna for me.

The pathia was full of tender lamb, enveloped in a sauce which was both spicy and had that perfect sweet and sour pathia taste in the background.

The balti is a favourite of mine. Juicy chicken tikka with a tomato-based sauce. Lots of flavour and more than a hint of spice. The perfect antidote to a stressful day!

A garlic nan bread, which was wonderfully doughy and full of slices of garlic, a chapati and pilau rice provided the side dishes.

Not only is the food excellent here, the portions are more than generous. Each meal came in a huge foil carton and was packed with meat and sauce.

In fact, there was more than enough for hubby’s lunch the following day, a fact which left him grinning from ear to ear.

The entire bill came to £16.
