Garstang Musical Productions will tackle tunes from some of the most popular musicals of today, including We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia and Jesus Christ Superstar in their Spring concert which runs from today until Saturday.

And, in a concert which features great four part harmony singing, the 40 strong group will also be performing a selection of hits by those great harmonisers, The Beach Boys.

The show, entitled Pop Rock Classics, runs at Garstang Community Academy - previously known as Garstang High School, from tonight until Saturday May 4.

It features choreographed and colourful interpretations of songs from the hugely popular Queen musical, which was written by Ben Elton, and from Mamma Mia, which was based on ABBA tunes and co-written by Benny Andersen of the world famous Swedish pop group.

And the amateur group will also be performing numbers from early Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber hit musical, Jesus Christ Superstar - alongside a run through of various hits by American surfer rock stars, The Beach Boys, which gives the group a chance to demonstrate their talents at close harmony singing.

With exciting choreography put together by Zac Yates, this is going to be a colourful and fast moving show.

Garstang Musical Productions celebrated their 25 anniversary the year before last and are now in their 27th year.

The group usually stages two shows a year - their spring show, which almost always takes the form of a concert, and their autumn show which is a full production.

Last year, the group scored a great success with their musical production of Oklahoma! and they also tackled Hot Mikado the year before.

Their secretary Alan Armstrong said: “This is not simply a concert - it is all choreographed, it is not just people sitting there and singing. It is a real stage show.”
