Winckley Square concert brings Christmas experience to the comfort of your home this weekend
The group behind the annual Christmas concert usually staged in Winckley Square is reminding anybody looking for a little early seasonal cheer that this year’s event is taking place online.
The pre-recorded performance will be available from 4pm on Sunday (6th December). It was filmed on location in the city and also in a special ‘greenscreen’ studio, enabling viewers to be transported through the ages to Christmases past - where the fascinating stories of five real-life Preston folk will be told.
Friends of Winckley Square chair Patricia Harrison says the 35-minute show offers “something for everybody”.
“There is the heritage aspect of it, as well as carols and things for the children - it really is family viewing.
“The finished product certainly exceeded my expectations - the backgrounds and the sound effects really bring it to life.
“And all of the performers have done a great job. One of the scenes brought me to tears - and I knew what was going to happen,” Patricia laughed.
She is promising a poignant finale and plenty of opportunities to sing along - the usual highlight for the hundreds who gather in the square each year in more normal times.
Patricia is also inviting "constructive feedback" via the group's Facebook page to help the Friends decide whether they should stage more digital events. Either way, the group hopes to be back in their traditional location in time for next year's Christmas performance.
“It’s sad that we can’t all be together - but, hopefully, having the concert online will bring a smile to people’s faces.”
