An art event will celebrate a milestone anniversary of Preston’s twinning partnership with a European city.

This year marks the 70th year of the city’s association with Almelo, Netherlands, and an exhibition will be hosted by the Ham and Jam coffee shop on Lancaster Road.

The exhibition - The Dutch Connection - is the brainchild of the Preston Arts Society and will run between April 3 and 29. A preview night takes place tomorrow between 6pm and 8pm.

The exhibition will feature paintings of Almelo and Preston from local artists and is the culmination of several exchange visits.

Pam Potter of the Arts Society said: “It’s to show how useful town-twinning can be.”

The celebration will see the Mayor of Almelo visit Preston this week along with counterparts from the city’s other twin towns; Recklinghausen, Germany, and, Kalisz, Poland .

Delegates will receive a tour of the city and attend several civic events.
