Sean Ward, 35, was working at a chicken farm in Wakefield, Yorkshire when he became a millionaire after playing on Betfair Casino.

The pipe fitter originally thought he had won £1,300, but when he checked his account again he realised the actual jackpot total was £1.3 million.

"After working at the chicken farm I was back at my digs with a workmate who I live with and I decided to have a few spins on Betfair Casino. I landed the jackpot and showed my phone to my mate to check - he thought it was £1,300 but I told him he’d need to add a few zeros," he said.

"I was in complete shock so had to look at the balance a few times and it still hasn't sunk in.

"It's the most surreal moment of my life. Just like Rodney once famously said to Del Boy - £1.3 million - not bad for a day's work."

Sean, who immediately celebrated with a bottle of champagne and a pack of cigars, plans on embarking on two once-in-a-lifetime trips when travel restrictions ease.

He intends to take his fiancé and two young children to Disneyland before arranging a fishing trip to Thailand with his friends.

Sean’s plans stop there either, as he’s going to invest in new kits and a full sponsorship for his grassroots team South Ribble Development Centre next season, whilst also getting a box at his beloved Preston North End next season for him and his match-going mates.

Sam Rosbottom, from Betfair, said: "We’re delighted for Sean and couldn’t be happier to pay out such a large amount of money.

"Since his big day, we’ve been in touch to help Sean with his withdrawal and to deliver his big win education, where we discuss the importance of controlling play, applying safer gambling tools, and coming to terms with a sum like £1.3 million, which sounds like it’s going to be well-spent.

"We’re big supporters of grassroots sports and wish South Ribble Development Centre FC all the best for when their season starts again. We’re sure their new kits and sponsorship will be the envy of their league."
