Sean Brady, 23, of Norfolk Street, Lancaster, and his co-defendant Brian Coulton, 29, of Tarnsyke Road, Lancaster, are accused of wounding Jordan Guest, which they deny.

Brady also pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing Daniel Pau actual bodily harm on the same date.

The charges relate to an alleged incident in Penny Street, Lancaster, at around 3am on November 14, 2019, in which a man suffered serious facial injuries that required surgery.

The case triggered a CCTV appeal by Lancashire Police in February 2020, which led to several people coming forward with information, the court heard.

During a brief plea hearing Judge Simon Newell asked why it had then taken police five months to arrest the suspects after the appeal.

Prosecuting, Gavin Howie said the delay was linked to the Covid outbreak.

Both defendants entered their pleas before Preston’s Sessions House Court.

They will now face a three day trial on August 25, 2020.

Coulton was granted bail in the meantime, but Brady has been remanded into custody.
