A Government spokesman said on Monday: “Prisoners are being vaccinated at the same time as the general public and in line with the priority groups set out by the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).”

Ministers set a target for everyone over 70 and clinically extremely vulnerable people to get a first dose by February 15.

It comes as the number of people in the UK who have received a first dose of a vaccine passed the 12 million mark, with jabs administered at a rate of almost 1,000 per minute during a one-hour period over the weekend.

Glitter found fame in the 1970s as part of the glam rock scene, scoring number one hits with I’m The Leader Of The Gang (I Am), I Love You Love Me Love and Always Yours.

He suffered a spectacular fall from grace in 1999 when he admitted possessing child pornography images, and was sentenced to four months.

In 2002, he was expelled from Cambodia over unspecified allegations, and in March 2006 he was convicted of sexually abusing two girls, aged 10 and 11, in Vietnam.
