St Catherine’s Hospice in Lostock Hall is increasing the number of parking spots at the south-western corner of its Lostock Lane site by 34, bringing the total for the car park to 91.

The application came as a result of the popularity of ‘The Mill’ – the hospice’s 50-seat cafe that opened in 2014.

Acting on behalf of the hospice, planning agents Cassidy and Ashton said: “The Mill has become very successful and is drawing more and more visitors in, and since most people drive to the café, the existing car park area is often full.”

The expansion will bring the overall parking facilities at the site to 227, including 12 for mobility, 22 cycle and four motorcycle spaces.

Cassidy and Ashton added that the hospice will ask their staff to park on the new area, freeing up the spaces nearer to the cafe for coffee shop visitors.
