Grassroots community group, Climate Action Preston, hopes that by hiding the pebbles around the city it will initiate conversations about climate change and how residents can all look after the planet as well as raise awareness of their campaign.

The action is part of the Climate Coalition’s annual February campaign with a theme of ‘Show the Love’.

Sonia Phillips, founder of Climate Action Preston, said: “The Climate Coalition, a charity bringing together over a hundred organisations across the UK, encourages anyone participating in the campaign to make personal pledges for how they will love the planet.

“Climate Action Preston members will post their pledges on social media, along with photos of the pebbles in situ to provide inspirational eco tips plus a little clue to where the pebbles can be found.”

Climate Action Preston is planning a range of projects across the city to encourage everyone to get involved in “positive action” to care for the planet. These include tree planting, opening a repair café and running a children’s clothing and toy library to promote a circular economy.

The group are also working closely with Preston City Council’s new Task and Finish Group for Climate Change to share ideas and resources for ways in which Preston can reduce its carbon emissions.
