This morning's crunch talks between Lancashire council chiefs and central Government have stalled, meaning Lancashire will stay in Tier 2 lockdown for now.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Matt Hancock said “discussions are ongoing” with local leaders on moving areas classed as high to very high, but "no decisions have been made".

He said: “In other areas currently in the second tier where discussions are ongoing, no further decisions have yet been made but we need to make rapid progress.”

Here's a selection of some of your views on the ongoing debate as to whether Lancashire should be placed in Tier 3:

Kim Greaves: "I work in a pub and my mum owns one. We are in the Ribble Valley in a tiny village. We have followed all rules put in place and are now being crippled, us remaining open whilst having vastly reduced customers is killing us.

"If we are forced to close at least we will get some financial help."

Eddie Jones: "Is it not a fact that the government are playing with the lives of Lancashire people simply because of the rescue package that is being asked for.

"The R rate in Lancashire and Manchester is astronomical and still rising day by day. Does this government want Lancashire people to lose their lives? That's basically saying money is of greater importance than people's lives. In my opinion this Tory government simply got everything wrong from the very start."

Susan Munslow: "I live in Wyre so had a big increase yesterday. Problem is Lancashire is a very wide ranging authority from the farms and hills to the busy cities and towns. I expected 3.

"I think more cities and big towns should be in 3."

Sharon Worden: "Tier 2 is basically what we have been doing since August and numbers have been rising, how on earth do people think staying this way is going to reduce the numbers.

"Very disappointed, the economy will struggle yes but it will, in time, bounce back. You cannot bring lost lives back."

Lyn Barnes: "Putting lambs to the slaughter is the easiest way of putting my response to the announcement that Blackpool will remain on Tier Two.

"Is it just the fear of losing money that is the real issue here and not lives."

Irene Batt: "I think that we should have been moved to Tier 3 because unfortunately some people don't and won't listen."

Duncan Wood: "I don't understand Why we are remaining in tier 2. With the statistics we should move to tier3. Surely life's are more important."

Ken Dobson: "Again it's going to be too little too late. We need to control the spread of the virus NOW!"

"Yes we also need to save the economy but letting the virus spread will do more damage in the long run. Put up taxes and give proper support to people and businesses affected by closure rules. Do it NOW not when the fire is totally out of control."

Robert Wilkinson: "Until the Virus is under control level 3 is the only option.

"Even at Level 2 Masks should be mandatory, common sense."

Jane Watson: "The young need to be exposed and become immune. Why wouldn’t they want to, when they are vanishingly unlikely to suffer consequences? If they all get Covid at Uni now, they will be safe to mingle with more vulnerable family members at Christmas.

"The only way forward is for immunity to build in the population, either by natural exposure to the virus, or via a vaccine. The vaccine may never come, or may only offer partial immunity (50% by one estimate). I am genuinely baffled as to what lockdown fans think is being achieved? How long do you think this ruinous game of hide and seek can go on?

"As a Telegraph reader wrote ‘it’s like blowing the house up to kill a hornet’. It’s as well governments didn’t have the power to shut the world down during previous plagues; we’d still be living in caves."

Mary Patterson: "I do not think any Tier Lockdowns where ever they are will work. The measures are too complex different Lockdowns in different areas just won't work. A lot of people work out of the area where they live and have different family commitments in different areas.I think we should have a National Lockdown to slow the spread. And the Government to pay the wages, or most of the wages so people can keep up with their rents etc. The businesses should also be given a helping hand."
