Vulnerable in Wyre? Here's how to get help from the council during coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic

The authority has launched Wyre Together, which will help those in the Government's high risk categories - and particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus Covid-19.

They include the over 70s, and people with underlying health issue who are self-isolating and don't have the support of friends, neighbours, or family.

People living in the borough can get in touch with the council online or over the phone to see what help is available, including checking what benefits they can get, if they can get a food parcel, and support to prevent loneliness.

The council said it had already written to over 70s.

Its leader, Coun David Henderson, said: "'Together we can make a difference' has long been Wyre Council's vision. Our staff are working around the clock to get our community response teams ready to help those who most need it.

"There is some brilliant work already going on in the community, and we are not going to duplicate this. We are looking to see how best we can support it and share messages about what's out there.

"Many people who are in self-isolation have the help of friends or family to make this difficult time a little easier, but some people don’t.

"Wyre Together will make sure these people are not left alone. Support is available and our teams are ready to help.”

Hubs are being set up around the country, on the orders of the Government, to help those told to stay indoors for an initial 12 weeks because they are likely to suffer most if they contract the disease, which has swept across the globe.

The community response teams in Wyre, like in other areas, will be delivering food parcels to those eligible. They will work with groups that are already up and running, including Poulton Can, Garstang Volunteer Force, Fleetwood Together, and Warren Manor Day Centre.
