The Croston Village Festivities Group is searching for a Covid community champion.

Organisers say they have had lots of entries so far.

Announcing the competition on its Facebook page, the group said; “We all know how hard this year has been so Croston Festivities have decided to run a competition for our Community Champion. Enter someone you know who has gone that extra mile during this pandemic to be in with a chance of winning them Christmas Dinner paid for by us.”

The group has now extended the invitation to also include businesses.

It asks: “Do you know someone who in response to the pandemic has gone the extra mile to help others within our community; an individual whose selfless acts of kindness have really made a difference to those around them?

“If so it’s time to shout about it and celebrate their fantastic efforts.” It added: “Due to ongoing restrictions, Croston Village Festivities Group is unable to organise the annual Christmas fair this year.

However, we still want to bring some cheer to Croston this Christmas time, so as well illuminating parts of the village with our festive lights, we’re offering to treat one of our local unsung heroes to Christmas dinner on us.”

Villagers are asked to name their Covid community champion and give their reasons for their nomination.

Send them to [email protected] by December 6.

The winner will be chosen by the group’s committee and announced on its Facebook page the following week.

Anyone living or volunteering in Croston qualifies.
