Action suspended as Freckleton FC player tests positive for Covid

A Fylde football club has suspended all activity at the club for 14 days after a first team player tested positive for Covid-19.

Freckleton FC, based at Bush Lane in the village and members of the West Lancashire League Division Two, posted the following statement on its social media page:

"All first team football (has been) suspended at Freckleton FC following a positive Covid-19 test.

"This morning (Tuesday), the club received the news that one of our first team playing squad has received a positive Covid-19 result from a test which was taken on September 20, 2020.

"In line with Government and FA guidance all football activity will now be ceased at the club for the next 14 days. This includes all training and competitive matches.

"The club and the individual involved are following all the necessary requirements in relation to track and trace.

"Freckleton FC have significant procedures to ensure the safety of all players, staff and visitors to the club and to minimise the risk of transmission."

Freckleton's first team is three games into the new season, with all the matches so far ending in defeat, the most recent a 5-2 setback at home to Rossendale on saturday.

The team was due to face Lancaster team Storey's this coming Saturday.

The club was contacted for further comment.
