A flooding working group specially set up by Fylde Council’s environment, health and housing committee to review flood risk and surface water management across the borough is inviting views from householders and landowners who have been affected.

Original deadline was set at February 14, but councillors are eager to give as home and landowners as possible the opportunity to contribute.

Coun Tommy Threlfall, chairman of the environment, health and housing committee, said: “The closing date for the survey has been extended to Sunday, March 7 as this is an important piece of work and we are keen to get as many responses as possible from people who have flooding concerns and experience in Fylde.”

The decision was taken to set up the working group was taken after significant flooding events at various locations, including Kirkham, Wrea Green and Freckleton, last summer.

Much Fylde land was also left saturated by heavy rains last month and Fylde MP Mark Menzies has spoken of his steadfast determination to do everything possible to solve the issue once and for all.

The working group will take evidence from Lancashire County Council as lead local flood authority, the Environment Agency, United Utilities and flood action groups as well as householders, farmers and landowners together with senior officers from Fylde’s Planning, Environmental Protection and Technical Services teams.

The aim is for the working group to develop a set of recommendations and proposals to improve surface water management in Fylde to reduce flooding in the future and ensure arrangements for responding to emergency flood incidents in Fylde are robust and effective.

Coun Threlfall added: “I would encourage anyone who has experienced flooding in Fylde to either their homes or businesses to take part in the survey.

“Having recently visited some affected properties it really is one of the worst things residents will experience and we are keen to make a difference to help anyone who has been affected by it.”
