Would- be Politicians get an early start at Larkholme School

While the corridors of power may be in turmoil, youngsters at a Wyre school have been getting own take on what democracy means.

Pupils at Larkholme Primary School marked Parliament Week by learning all about the goings on in Westminster.

The Windermere Avenue school in Fleetwood was a hive of activity as would-be young politicians went into eelction mode.

Pupils worked in parties to decide on their manifestos, gave speeches and then everyone had the opportunity to go to the ballot box to vote. Even the reception class took part, voting for their favourite reading books and learning about Guy Fawkes.

Deputy headteacher Rebecca Sims said: " In Year 6 the pupils were able to have an online meeting with our local MP Cat Smith, who answered the pupils questions brilliantly. Larkholme would like to thank Cat Smith for taking the time to talk with our pupils."

She added that the children really enjoyed the experience and will be following it up by writing letters to parliament about their concerns and ideas for the local area.
