Yarrow Schools Alliance Teacher Training Programme is based in Chorley, Lancashire. It offers local placement schools for anyone on its training programme. It was recently visited by Ofsted who judged its initial teacher training programme to be outstanding.

What the teaching course isOver the course of an academic year (September 2023 - July 2024), participants would learn how to teach. They would spend most of each week in a classroom learning how to deliver great quality lessons from dedicated mentors in either good or outstanding primary schools. They would also spend days learning the theory behind the practice. And they would also receive subject knowledge training by leading consultants from the Lancashire Professional Development Service.

Who is this course for?The course is aimed at people who hold a degree, straight out of university all the way to graduates wishing to change career. Yarrow Schools Alliance Teacher Training Programme has had a myriad of trainees with diverse backgrounds and previous occupations including policemen, solicitors and teaching assistants.

What will you qualify to do?The course helps those who wish to join the teaching profession gain QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and get a job in a primary classroom.

What the course entails and durationThe course consists of theory and practical based training. Most of each week is spent in the classroom learning how to teach from seeing it modelled and exemplified. Some of each week is spent learning the teaching theory (Pedagogy) which underpins this practice.

Funding and costsThe course costs £9,250 but student finance is available from Student Finance England, to help cover the costs of the course and also maintenance loans to support you during your training year.
