Very colourful way to learn

When staff at the Elizabeth Saunders Nursery School, in New Longton, near Preston, decided to teach their young charges about different religious feast, they decided on a practical lesson with a difference.

So when the pre-schoolers at the Saunders Lane facility were learning about the Indian Festival of Colour, also known as Holi, they took the ethos of learning through play seriously.

The festival is a free-for-all festival of colours where people smear each other with paint and drench each other.

Water guns and water-filled balloons are also used to play and colour each other.

The nursery staged a massive paint fight youngsters were encouraged to cover themselves and each other in as many different colours as possible.

The big event was organised close to home time so parents could join in if they wanted to but as far as the children were concerned the lesson was a big hit.
