Top accreditation for university school

Preston's university has been named as one of only three in the UK to receive a prestigious accreditation for its courses.

The University of Central Lancashire’s College of Culture and the Creative Industries has been confirmed as a JAMES Integrated Learning Centre.

JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) provides a link between education and the creative industries.

UCLan was applauded its ability to meet industry needs and prepare students for careers in their selected field.

Six courses within the School of Film, Media and Performance received JAMES accreditation: BA (Hons) Music, BA (Hons) Music Production, BA (Hons) TV Production, BSc (Hons) Media Production, BA (Hons) Animation and BA (Hons) Games Design.

The panel of assessors also hailed the UCLan courses as a benchmark in which other courses could be measured.

Dennis Weinreich, chairman of JAMES, said: “We found that the depth of planning, forward-thinking student collaboration and comprehensive industry links have created a benchmark in courses relevant to our industries.

The courses, along with others in this college at UCLan, represent a very impressive and integrated programme.”

Paul Greene, principal lecturer and academic group lead for performance within the School of Film, Media and Performance led the project.

He added: “Employability is key to this accreditation and we ensure that students work in an environment which mirrors real-world industry environments. Becoming a JAMES Integrated Learning Centre not only commends our techniques, practices and facilities but also indicates to employers the high standard of knowledge, experience and expertise they can expect from our graduates.”

JAMES is made up of music and entertainment industry organisations promoting excellence in education.

The key aims include providing supportive links between industry and education in a rapidly changing industry.
