Following last year’s rise of 27 places, UCLan has climbed a further five places in the Complete University Guide 2021 and is now ranked 70th out of 130 institutions.

In the ‘student satisfaction’ category, based on a range of aspects of teaching quality as measured in the National Student Survey, UCLan shot up 40 places from 88th to 48th.

Among those in the UK’s top 20 are dentistry, East and South Asian studies, food science, general engineering, hospitality, leisure, recreation and tourism, linguistics and physiotherapy.

Vice-chancellor Professor Graham Baldwin said: "The results in this latest table are very encouraging. We were the largest riser in this table last year and so to consolidate that position this time with a 40-place increase in the student satisfaction category is a great achievement."

He added: "The investments we have made, including our £200 million Masterplan development, have been led by student feedback and we are now seeing the results of this pull through into this latest table.

"Once our new £60 million student centre and new square is completed, we expect to see further good news in our overall satisfaction levels and league table performance.

"Once again our forensic science provision has been highlighted as a sector leader being ranked 11th nationally and first in the North West while our engineering provision continues to perform strongly. "

Prof Baldwin said: "Right across the board though our course portfolio continues to reflect our ethos of real-world practicality meaning people irrespective of their backgrounds can fulfil their potential while meeting life and career goals.”

UCLan is officially Lancashire’s largest provider of graduate level qualifications and around one per cent of the county’s residents are enrolled at the university at any one time.
