Stephanie Slater set to be honoured by UCLan

Swimming ace Stephanie Slater and former college boss Ann Turner will be among those receiving honorary awards from the University of Central Lancashire next week.

Between Monday and Friday more than 3,500 students will don their academic caps and gowns and take to the stage of Preston’s Guild Hall for the prestigious Degree and Award Ceremonies.

They will be watched by thousands of family, friends, distinguished guests and university staff.

Two honorary doctorates and six honorary fellowships will be conferred during 10 ceremonies over five days of graduation celebrations.

Swimmer Stephanie, won gold and silver medals at the Paralympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games and is being presented with her Honorary Fellowship to acknowledge the significant contribution she has made to the world of sport through your successful swimming career.

Other Fellowships will be awarded to sculptor Charles Hadcock, publisher Barry Cunningham OBE, recently-retired Myerscough College principal Ann Turner; Kevin McGee, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive and contemporary theatre expert Enrique Pardo.

Midwifery expert Sheena Byrom OBE and Patrick Holden, a descendant of one of the university’s founders, will also be conferred with the Honorary Doctorates.

Sheena’s for the significant contribution she has made to the development of themidwifery profession at local, national and international levels.

Parick’s will officially recognise his academic achievements in law as well as the significant contribution he has made to the Moses Holden Scholarship Fund.
