Making friends is a top priority for any four and five-year-old just starting school.

That is just what the reception children have been doing at Cop Lane CE Primary in Penwortham, near Preston.

The children spent two weeks learning all about heroes from all walks of life... real and imaginary.

Teachers said they learned a lot about the meaning of being a hero.

To mark the end of the topic the youngsters were given the chance to show off what they had learned by dressing up as their favourite superhero.

Traditional school uniform was swapped for Batman and Supergirl costumes, while others adopted the outfits of nurses and police officers. The day proved a real bonding experience for the infant class.
